The Light Between Oceans by M.L. Stedman

I read this a few years ago but it’s exquisite and unforgettable. It’s now come out as a film…read the book first. Set in Australia, just after World War 1, it’s the story of a lighthouse keeper, Tom, and his wife who live on a remote island off the western coast. Isabel is desperate to have children but after several miscarriages is losing all hope. Then a boat washes up on the island – in it is a dead man and a crying newborn baby. Will anyone ever know if they keep it?

  1. Absolutely loved this book so beautifully written. Love the idea of finding book recommendations too.

  2. Absolutely loved this book even though it made me cry and physically sob over the last few pages! Highly recommend. Have seen film but much preferred the book.

    1. Oh those last pages – I know exactly which bit you mean. Brilliant isn’t it. I’m not going to see the film – would spoil it.

  3. A very moving read, so beautifully written. Not the sort of book I would normally read but I literally couldn’t put it down. I’ve never read anything by this author before. I am not sure whether to see the film or not, as I really don’t think it will live up to my expectations!

  4. I loved this book and couldn’t put it down. It was beautifully written. I was quite intrigued as to how the story would develop and I actually cried at the end! I also like the idea of book recommendations.
