The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society by Mary Ann Schaffer and Annie Barrows

You’ve got to love this book – just for the title alone! In a nutshell it’s about a writer living in London in 1946.  She receives a letter from a man in Guernsey who’s found her name written in a book he’s bought. And so begin a whole series of letters between the two which reveal not just the origins of the Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society but also a fascinating insight into what life has been like for the people of Guernsey – this man and his friends – during the Nazi occupation of their island. The book is all written as a series of letters – but don’t be put off by that! It’s wonderful and warm and will really draws you in,

  1. I so enjoyed this! One of those books I didn’t want to finish. Any author who encourages me to read further about the history, characters or setting of their work had done a good job.

  2. I read this book years ago when it first came out and loved it. On hearing a film has been made I re-read it and enjoyed it just as much. Did not want the story to end.

  3. We read this a BOOK GROUP choice, and everyone LOVED IT!!! Read it TWICE! Still love it!
