Circe by Madeline Miller

I bought this book ages ago and then didn’t pick it up again until I saw a woman sitting in the window of Pret A Manger at about 10 in the morning completely engrossed in it. That is my kind of book, I thought and went home and started reading it. It’s a modern take on the Greek myth the Odyssey, not the sort of book I’d usually pick up. But it is beautifully told, enchanting, lyrical. It’s the story of one woman, Circe, trying to stand up for herself in a very male world. By the end of it, I too was stopping in cafes first thing in the morning to devour it.
